Book One Epilogue: Never Alone

Korra pushed the tassel slightly out of her face, looking up to see how many people were still in front of her. There was still a good number, but at least now she could see the glow of the light from the stage.
"It's an exciting time, isn't it?"
Korra turned her head. Standing next to her was a man she was sure she had never seen before, but at the same time seemed familiar. She thought it was because he looked slightly like Tenzin, but that didn't quite seem to be it.
"You're moving on to the next stage in your life," he continued, "You should be very proud to have gotten this far."
Korra smiled to herself. She then felt something: a tiny kick, courtesy of little Kaskae. Without saying a word, the man standing next to her smiled and touched her belly.
Normally when a stranger would touch her without permission, Korra would slap their hand away and tell them off, but she didn't even flinch with this man. He just seemed too familiar, like a long lost friend. No, it was more than that, but she couldn't put her finger on what it was. Whatever the case, she knew that this man couldn't be a stranger.
Taking his hand off her belly, the man looked up at her, still smiling.
"Good luck out there, Korra."
Korra's eyes widened at the sound of her name. The man turned around and began to walk away.
"Wait a minute," Korra called after him, "Who are you?"
He stopped walking and turned around. "Just a friend."
As Korra watched him walk away, several images suddenly began to flash through her mind. Pictures she saw hanging up in Katara's house, in Tenzin's house, and a few she didn't even remember seeing were suddenly right before her eyes. That same man was in all of them, his arm around Katara and sometimes accompanied by either his children or his friends.
By the time it all stopped, the man was long gone. Korra shook her head.
"That's… That's impossible," she said under her breath.
The person standing behind her nudged her. "What're you looking at? Ms. Shimpleton just called your name! Move!"
Korra immediately snapped out of it and walked across the stage. Her principal handed her diploma to her, and then quickly shook her hand.
"Have a nice life, Korra," Ms. Shimpleton grinned.
Korra smiled back at her. "You too."
Once the ceremony was over, Korra suddenly found herself surrounded by people. The first person to come up to her was Mako, who scooped her up and gave her a big, congratulatory kiss. Next was Bolin and Asami, followed by her parents, Katara, Lin, Pema, the kids, and then finally Tenzin.
"I'm so proud of you, Korra," he told her, a big smile on his face.
Korra smiled back at him. Suddenly, the voice of the man who came up to her earlier entered her mind.
"With all these people here for you, I hope you now realize that you will never be alone, and that you weren't alone in the first place."
Welp, that's it for Book One. Be sure to check back for Book Two after season two of TLOK starts! Also, I might right a couple of shorts between now and then, so look out for that too. :)
